Most people have the idea to wear sun cream containing different sun protection factor (SPF) only in the summer, but in reality, you should be wearing SPF all year round. Why is wearing SPF all year round so important to your skin? Well, the most crucial role, the SPF protects your skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays, which come in two forms – UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays are most commonly associated with skin aging; these beams have the ability to pass through glass and cause fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots that make skin look prematurely older. UVB rays are the ones most commonly associated with sunburns and cannot pass through glass.

Avoid sun in the middle of the day, from about 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The ultraviolet rays, which cause sunburn, are strongest during this time. When you do go outdoors, wear protective clothing and sunglasses that filter UV light.

The SPF number tells you how well the product will protect you from UVA and UVB, the burning rays of the sun. The higher the SPF number, the greater the amount of protection. SPF helps decrease your risk of developing skin cancer. Furthermore, wearing SPF benefits aging of the skin, keeping the skin tone even, preventing facial brown spots, and skin discolorations. Even if you do not burn easily, wearing suncream is still important. Sunburn is an immediate reaction, but sun damage occurs over a lifetime. Although skin cancer is more prevalent in people with lighter skin, it does not discriminate and can still affect those with darker skin.
