12 Tips For Making Your Fruit and Veg Last Longer
10. Keep vegetables fresher for longer by removing their stalks
It doesn’t sound that logical, but removing the stalk from vegetables can seriously improve their shelf life. Stalks draw up moisture from the roots of veg, leaving it dehydrated and wrinkled. Cut the stalks off beetroot and other vegetables to avoid them drying out prematurely.
11. Stop cut avocados and apples from going brown with this little trick
Avocados are expensive, so when they go brown hours after you’ve cut into them it can be very annoying. Squeeze some lemon juice over the exposed fruit surfaces and store them in the fridge. This will keep them fresher for longer.
12. Throw mouldy items away ASAP to stop bacteria transfer
Keeping mouldy fruit and veg next to the fresh stuff will lead to bacteria transfer to the fresh produce, resulting in it going bad very quickly. As soon as you notice something has gone off, remove it and chuck it away.
